A few years ago I had the opportunity to enjoy a seven day Royal Norwegian Cruise among five of the Hawaiian Islands.  My favorite spot on the trip was the Lavender Farm.  Each night the ship would travel to another port, and my Father, Dr. Thomas W. Nuckols and I would disembark and travel by car to the various parks, beaches, towns and, of course, Spas.  Among all those opportunities, driving up the volcano on Maui to the Lavender Farm was one of the most peaceful.

As you enjoy my photos, keep in mind that the temperature was only in the eighties and that cool sea breezes can be felt on most of Maui.  This family owned business produced all types of lavender to be used in teas, sugar, body products and more.  However, it is rarely exported to the mainland because of the cost.  I did bring back several samples to Bella Fontana Spa, but they were quickly consumed.  Our lavender products primarily come from a supplier with many aromatherapy and ayurvedic products including sugar and salt scrubs, massage creams, lotions and oils and herbal heat and cold therapies, including Narayan Oil that we use to relieve pain and stiffness.

The walk with the tall conifers took you by the lavender gardens and the house and outbuildings.  Other paths led into the fields and around the property to the wedding platform, shop and the deck where you could enjoy teas and treats infused with lavender.  As you look toward the shore and down the slope of the volcano, you can just see the top of the owner’s home (white roof) indicating the steep drop of the sides of the volcano.  These are not cliffs, just a steady downward slope to the area between the two volcanoes that forms the bays on each side.
